Madagascar Background

Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world. It has been separated from Africa for 165 million years and that means that most of the animals and plants you find on Madagascar are found nowhere else on earth!

It is one of the poorest countries in the world, many people have no work and of course the situation is worse now because there are no tourists due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Many of the amazing animals found on Madagascar are at risk because of people cutting down their forests . You can see a picture of the forest burning …..people do that so that they can then grow crops.

Many animals are caught and sold as pets or used as food.

Despite all these problems the people of Madagascar are some of the friendliest, funniest, cheerful people we have ever met .
